What's inside Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park?
Snow Leopard (Panthera uncia)
Distribution : Trans-Himalayan range
Food Habit : Its main prey species are Blue Sheep, Wild Goats, Himalayan Thar etc.
Breeding Season : Mid winter
Gestation period : 90 - 100 days
Status : Endangered species
Imported from : Zoo Zurich, Switzerland.
   
Common Leopard (Panthera pardus)
Distribution : The Indian Leopard ranges over the whole country extending towards Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
Food Habit : It preys on Deer, Monkey, Rodents etc. Occasionally, preys on domestic animals
Breeding Season : It breeds all the year round.
Gestation period : 90 - 100 days
   



Barking Deer or Muntjac (Muntiacus muntjak)
Distribution : Asiatic mountains around and above timber region.
Food Habit : It feeds on grass.
Breeding Season : During Jan-Feb.
Gestation period : 6 months.
   
Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens)
Distribution : Western, central and eastern Himalayas, the Assam Hill ranges and towards, Myanmar, Indo-Chinese and Malay countries.
Food Habit : It eats mainly fruits, but also preys on small birds.
Breeding Season : During March and Sept.
Gestation period : 2 months.
   
Impeyan Pheasant (Lophophorus impejanus)
Distribution : Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Kumaon, Nepal and upto Bhutan.
Food Habit : Seeds, tubers, shoots, mushrooms and insects.
Size : Larger than domestic hen.
Range : Between 600 - 5000 meter. The highest altitude bird among Indian Pheasant.
Incubation Period : Clutch size 4 to 6, 27-28 days.
   
Tibetan Wolf (Canies lupus lupus)
Distribution : Western Himalayas at an altitude of 7,000 - 13,000 feet.
Food Habit : It preys on wild goats, sheep, birds, even insects etc.
Breeding Season : Winter
Gestation period : 60 - 65 days
Status : Endangered species, it is the first zoo amongst South East Asia to breed this species
   
Clouded Leopard (Neofelis nebulosa)
Distribution : It inhabits forests of India through South-East Asia to Sumatra and Borneo at altitude of upto 2000 mtrs.
Breeding Season : Nov - Dec.
Gestation period : 85 - 95 days
Status : Endangered species.
   
Markhor (Capra falconeri)
Distribution : Asiatic mountains around and above timber region.
Food Habit : Grass and shrubs.
Breeding Season : Winter.
Gestation period : About 6 months.
Status : Endangered species
   
Goral (Nemorhaedus goral)
Distribution : East and South-East Asia.
Food Habit : It feeds on grass.
Breeding Season : During Jan - Feb.
Gestation period : Approx. 6 months.
   
Blue Sheep or Bharal (Pseudois nayaur)
Distribution : It is found in Tibet, Ladakh, Kumaon, Himalayas, Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan at an altitude of 3000 - 3500 mtrs.
Food Habit : It feeds on coarse grass, moss and dwarf shrubs.
Breeding Season : During Oct - Nov.
Gestation period : About 6 - 7 months.
Status : Endangered species.
   
Siberian Tiger (Panthera tigris altaica)
Distribution : Found in Siberia, Amur and Ussuri region.
Food Habit : Feeds on Deer, wild boars, Elk, hare etc.
Breeding Season : Winter
Gestation period : 95 - 112 days
Status : Endangered species
Imported from : Helsinki Zoo, Finland.
   
Yak (Bos grunniens)
Distribution : Northern Ladakh, Tibet and part of Kansu province in China.
Food Habit : It grazes on the sparse herbs and swamp grasses
Breeding Season : During September.
Gestation period : 9 months.
   
Himalayan Black Bear (Selenarctos thibetanus)
Distribution : Kashmir, Himalayas and Assam extending Eastwards into China and Japan, South-wards into Myanmar and Malaly.
Food Habit : It feeds on fruits, berries and nuts of various kind.
Breeding Season : Late autumn.
Gestation period : About 8 months.
