Red Panda is found in the forests of eastern Himalayas at an altitude of 1500-4000 mtrs. It is a small cute looking animal with a bright chestnut brown body, rounded head, pointed ears and bushy ringed tail. This animal feeds mainly on bamboo and also eats insects, fruits and tuberous roots.
At present there are 18 Red Pandas in the Zoo.
From 1994 to 1998 PNHZP has successfully arranged captive breeding of Red Panda. This happens to be a unique achievement.

Snow Leopard or Ounce is a highly endangered wild animal of the snow clad areas of the Himalayas. This natural hunter, preys mainly on wild sheep, sheep, goats, rodents birds and other small animals. Siberian Tiger :
Siberian Tiger is the largest race of tigers in the world found in Ussuri region of Siberia. Compared to the Tnelina Tiger, the Siberian /Ussuri Tiger is larger, paler in colour, thicker in coat and has fluffy tail.
PNHZP Park is the only zoo in entire South East Asia to house and breed the animal in captivity.

Tibetan Wolf :
The Himalayan Wolf is found at an altitude between 7000 and 13000 ft. above m.s.l. in the Western Himalayas. This carnivore preys upon larger mammals to rodents, birds or even insects, crabs etc.
This wolf differs from common wolf by its thick blackish coat and heavier built. The wolf is the ancestor of the domestic dog. Their sight and hearing are good. They have powerful jaws and vocal communication is well developed in them.
In 1990, a pair of wolves were received from Shimla Zoo. They were brought there from Spiti Valley Himachal Pradesh. All these wolves are the descendants of that original pair.

Markhor :
The wild goat of Western Himalayas, is easily recognised by its magnificient work screw shaped horns. Of all the ungulates, the Markhor is most skilled in climbing difficult and dangerous cliffs.
