  1. History of Darjeeling: The history of Darjeeling can be traced back to 1835 when the British East India Company acquired it from the monarch of Sikkim. It has been a part of India since 1947 but historically, Darjeeling was never really a part of Bengal as no king who ruled the plains of Bengal ever had any control over these areas. Read more...

  2. Geographical Information of Darjeeling: Darjeeling district is shaped like an irregular triangle over an an area of approximately 1,200 sq. miles. The eastern frontier lies along the rivers Tista and Rangeet, beyond is Rishi-La and Bhutan. The lower regions of the labyrithine hilly forest-clad ridges, have been cleared for the cultivation of the world famous Darjeeling tea. The southern region, the base, comprises the Terrai, a marshy low-lying area at an average height of 100 m above sea level; the apex is formed by the Phalut ridge where Nepal meets India. Rivers of Darjeeling: The Teesta River which is also known as the Mightiest Drainer of the Eastern Himalayas which has its source in Lake Cholamo, Sikkim forms one of the three main rivers of Darjeeling district. The other two rivers are Rangeet whose source is the glacier of Kabru and Mahanady which has its source near Mahaldiram hill to the east of Kurseong. Read more...

  4. Kanchenjunga. The 3rd Highest Mountain in the World: Five summits adorn Mt. Kanchenjunga whose name is derived from the Tibetan words, 'Kanchen' and 'Dzonga' meaning 'Five Treasuries of the Great Snow'. The highest summit is 28,156 feet and the second highest peak at 27,820 feet. Many parts of Darjeeling offer spectacular views of the Himalayan mountain range and especially that of the majestic Kanchenjunga. Read more...
