FOOD & WINE

Momos found in DarjeelingApart from being the best tourist destination, Darjeeling is also renowned for its food and wine especially momos and tongbas respectively.

"Momos drive the tourists nuts" is the phrase heard from restaurant owners who sell momos. Momos found in Nepal are not momos, but momochas which is totally different from the momos found in Darjeeling. Darjeeling momos are exceptionally mouth watering and the locals say that no one can have just one, but more and more.

Tongbas or local beer in DarjeelingTongba or local beer is not only popular among the locals but tourists as well. These local beers are not readily available everywhere, but in special restaurants as Hot Stimulating Cafe near Shrubbery Park. Tongbas consume a lot of time to drink because the juice from the ingredients has to seep into the water which is poured from top. Its taste can only be felt when one drinks it and the best of all, it is said to be 100% free alcohol.
